Author's Notes: For those of you who know Serenity and Firefly, you will recognise that several aspects of the television series, not just the film have made their way into this fic. You’ll probably spot all of them. I’ve tried to splice them together as well as I can.

For the purposes of narrative flow and to cut down on word count and lengthy excerpts in which nothing much happens, the Pendragons do not spend as long on board Avalon as the Tams spend on Serenity. This makes the interpersonal relationships evolve a lot faster than I would have liked, but some things are just necessary.

This follows the major plot of the original film quite closely, although I’ve changed things on many significant points. I’m not telling you whether those include any of the deaths (no, not even going to tell you about that one).

I cut the Inara role out of this fic because the only Merlin character I could think of who was remotely Companion like was Sophia, and she’s more of a Saffron character. (God, I want to write that fic now!)

In the spirit of the original, the characters swear and sometimes comment in a second language. As I don’t know Mandarin, I didn’t use that. I did, in true Merlin style, do them all in Old English, which I also haven’t learnt. I apologise for any grammatical or vocabulary errors, all of it comes from www.oldenglishtranstator.co.uk. All translations are in the post-fic notes along with a timeline, detailing the major events in the history of the fic, and extended character notes. Feel free to ask questions or point out plot holes. In fact I encourage you to do so.

I’ve tried to include small nods to Serenity and Firefly, and also Merlin, along the way. Some original dialogue from both fandoms is included, some things are just in built.

I hope I’ve managed to do both sides of this justice, though I can’t imagine I have. Please enjoy, and be kind. I’m not Joss Whedon.
